INDEPENDENT CORNER
You are probably wondering how Daniel came up with a show title of Independent Corner and what this show is all about. Well I’m gonna take this opportunity to give you all the details so you can pass it along to all your friends and family members.
Independent Corner made its on-air debut on February 2nd, 2008 on WCRX 88.1 FM, a college radio station in Chicago, Illinois and that was the same date I made my on-air debut. I made the call out to Indie artists and bands from all around the world by posting first onto Myspace by letting them know that I would give them an opportunity to showcase their music without having to shell out their hard earned money in order to get aired on major radio stations. I then started incorporating Facebook onto my list of social sites. I first starting featuring artists & bands who specializes in one particular genre of music each week. But then I decided just mix it all together to satisfy everyone’s music tastes. Before long I had CDs I burned and CDs artists sent me via mail packages. As the show continued to develop with in-studio and live phone interviews, I was thinking of a way to get the listeners involved with the program. About midway through the Spring Semester, I decided to give the listeners and opportunity to vote for their favorite artists & bands and then compile all the votes together from E-mails and phone calls into a Best-Of Countdown style show at the end of the semester thanks to all the times I’ve listen to Kasey Khasem’s American Top 20 & 10 Countdown shows. In September of 2010 Independent Corner returned to the airwaves on Indie 104 - iRadio LA and better than ever. With 5 Best-Of shows each year; 4 seasonal and 1 year-end coming to you every Monday at 3pm Eastern / 12pm Pacific.
So basically Independent Corner is not just my show, it is everyone’s show. I play for you unsigned artists & bands or artists that are signed to a less-known record label. You, the audience tell me by your voting who you believe is the best artist/band for each of the calendar seasons and for the current year.
